I very much support this project to bring water to our homes and relocate our meters! The neighbors also support this project because we have been living with a substandird water system since the late 1980s when most of the houses on the street were built. I have attached a map and photos that I hope will become the "before" photos to show the contrast of the changes when we bring the "after photos" to show you how your vote to approve this project has greatly improved the quality of life for our small community. Here's the problem: Each home has a waterline that brings water to our homes from the meters at the Mamalahoa Highway and Mauka Road. Then the water travels through brittle PVC or Drisco water lines that lay on top of the old rock walls along the Church of God Road and travel approximately 1/4 mile with a 200 feet change in elevation to our homes. The water pressure increases greatly going downhill and splits the old PVC or Drisco lines. Several times per month there are frantic emails from a neighbor who sees a leak for everyone to check their meters. When I bought my house in 2009, I spent$3,000 to replace the old PVC line with heavy 3/4 inch Drisco line, but over the last 14 years my line has broken 3 times, each time wasting large amounts of water and causing expensive repairs. Most of the lines are old, brittle PVC lines and break regularly. See map of the location of the lines and meters-and the Church of God Road, which is a road of 2 cement tracks and FYI Church of God Road does connect to the Mauka Road, but it's not shown properly on this map. The plan is to connect to the waterline in Aniani street, putting a new water line in the road, placing water meters at our houses and then paving the road. This will make our lives so much easier and much nicer to live in our neighborhood, which is why we ask for your approval. We very much appreciate the hard work of Council members Karen Eoff that has continued with Holeka Inaba. Wendy Baez, their legislative aide, has been a steadfast supporter to move this project forward! We are deeply grateful to her. We thank the engineers at the Department of Water Supply for spearheading this project and the people from the Department of Water Supply that were always there to help us to figure out what line was broken.
