Kicrkiewicz, Council Member Proposed Amendment to Resolution No. 223-23; a Resolution Strongly Urging Immediate Action by the Hawaii State Legislature, Department of Commerce & Consumer Affiairs, and Hawaii Property Insurance Association to Address Insurance Accessibility on Hawaii Island, Particularly in Lava Zones I and 2. Please see the below proposed amendments to Resolution No. 223-23. The proposed amendments are illustrated below in Ramseyer format as applied to the current contents of Resolution No. 223-23; material to be deleted is bracketed and stricken, and material to be added is underscored. 1. Resolution No. 223-23 is amended by amending the -first WfIEREAS clause to read as ,follows: "WHEREAS, a stable and accessible insurance market is of critical importance for residents ofHawai'i Island[,] residing in or operating a commercial business in Lava Zones I and 2[;], as shown in "Exhibit A" attached hereto; and" 2. Resolution No. 223-23 is amended by amending the first BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED clause to read as follows: "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii State Legislature, Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs, Insurance Division, and I-lawai'i Property Insurance Association (IIPIA), explore various means of assisting affected residents, including: a) evaluating the equitable application of policy premiums; b) [inereai�] descreasing IIPIA policy premiums and expanding coverage to include commercial businesses, [b)] � implementing subsidies or financial assistance programs to mitigate the financial burden for vulnerable residents in Lava Zones I and 2, and [e)] cD exploring the creation of a risk pooling mechanism." of To:— I COUNA, Ptef.
