A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HULIAUAPAʻA FOR
THE REVITALIZATION OF THE WAHI KŪPUNA KAHALUʻU FIELD SYSTEM.
WHEREA, Huliauapaʻa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2012, whose purpose is to educate and empower students and communities on the stewardship of kūpuna through collaboration
with various community groups, educational institutions, landowners, and archaeological firms to provide education, training, and assistance in the preservation, stewardship, and management
of cultural and historical sites throughout Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, Kahaluʻu Kūāhewa is a community-based organization whose vision aims for the revitalization of the wahi kūpuna Kahaluʻu Field System as a traditional Hawaiian agriculture landscape,
and reconnecting kānaka to ʻāina; and
WHEREAS, through indigenous grassroots iniatives and sustainable restorative agricultural practices, Huliauapaʻa and Kahaluʻu Kūāhewa will work in partnership to reinforce the wahi kūpuna
and kānaka to ʻāina reconnections; and
WHEREAS, Huliauapaʻa is requesting funds for agricultural maintenance equipment, irrigation supplies, and community outreach material; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that promote the health, safety, and welfare of communities in a drug-free and alcohol-free environment;
and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Huliauapaʻa for the revitalization of the wahi kūpuna Kahaluʻu Field System.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
