RE: RESOLUTION FOR A VICTIM/WITNESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM GRANT
Per your request for some information about the V/W grant from
the State of Hawaii:
The Victim/Witness Assistance Program is a unit of the
Prosecutor's Office.
The Prosecutor's Office receives money from the State
annually for its Victim/Witness Assistance Program.
The grant amount is $181,838.
The grant covers salaries and some fringes for six
positions (the County funds four and federal grants
cover four).
The unit provides direct services to crime victims,
witnesses, and others.
Services include crisis counseling; information about
the case and offender status; orientation and
accompaniment to court and parole hearings; assistance
with victim impact statements and crime victim
compensation.
Please call me at 934-3305 if more information would be
helpful. Also, please let me know if we need to be at the
council meeting when this resolution is heard.
Thank you.

RE: Resolution No. 200-2K Authorizing the County of Hawaii to enter into an
agreement with the State of Hawaii, Pursuant to HRS 46-7, for a Victim Witness
Assistance Program Grant.
Pursuant to Section 1(e) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Finance to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is
denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Finance for placement on its future agenda.
Sincerely,
Aaron S.Y. Chung, Chair
