A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KEAUKAHA ONE YOUTH
DEVELOPMENT TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS ROBOTICS PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Keaukaha One Youth Development (KOYD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to help underprivileged Native Hawaiian youth to reveal their individual strengths
and passions to build leadership skills, self-esteem, motivation, and positive relationships for future career and academic success; and
WHEREAS, KOYD has established a collaboration with Keaukaha Elementary School and Kamaʻāina Kids (A+ Program) to provide an after-school robotics program to over 130 elementary students,
which will consist of mentors and volunteers providing weekly instructional sessions using VEX IQ robotics kits; and
WHEREAS, the KOYD robotics program is designed to provide opportunities for innovation, design, and future interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers; and
WHEREAS, KOYD is requesting funds to purchase three VEX IQ robotics kits for its robotics program at Keaukaha Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that promote educational programs and activities for youth in a drug-free and alcohol-free environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to KOYD to support its robotics program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
