Re: Resolution for multi-year lease
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the payment of funds for more than one fiscal year,
for Tasers and associated equipment to be used by the Hawai`i County Police
Department. These Tasers are to replace those currently being used by police officers,
which are no longer being manufactured and have become obsolete.

A. REQUEST:
To enter into a multi-year agreement for five(5) years with Axon for TASER Conducted Energy Weapon
Taser 10 and associated equipment to be used in various locations by HPD Officers throughout the island.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Police Department would like to obtain a 5 year lease for new Conducted Energey Weapons
(CEW/Taser) and associated equipment(holster, training and duty cartridges, simulation training suits) to be
issued to officers throughout the County. Leasing of these new tasers and associated equipment will give
officers a more reliable de-escalation tool,which will hopefully decrease incidents of having to go "hands on"
with combative subjects and improve overall officer safety. The Taser 10 has been approved as the
replacement taser for the (X2)which is no longer in production. Additionally, replacement parts such as
cartridges and batteries have increased in price. The Taser 10 will help enhance officer and community
safety by providing an up to date piece of equipment to be utilized in critical incidences.
