A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE KEAUKAHA SCHOOL
FOUNDATION FOR KEAUKAHA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES IN THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR.
WHEREAS, the Keaukaha School Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the students and programs of Keaukaha Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Keaukaha Elementary School’s “Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke” (in doing, you learn) preschool program provides educational experiences outside the school campus that are critical to early
learning comprehension and to establishing a stronger association with objects and concepts through visual and tactile learning experiences; and
WHEREAS, to promote “Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke” learning, the preschool is coordinating various excursions that will include visits to the Pana‘ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens, ‘Imiloa Astronomy
Center, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Station, Hilo Air Traffic Control Tower, ‘Āina University, Honomū Goat Dairy, Hilo Headquarters of the Hawai‘i Police Department, Hawai‘i Volcanoes
National Park, and Prince Kūhiō Plaza; and
WHEREAS, the Keaukaha School Foundation is requesting funds for transportation of students, admission fees, and activity fees; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports educational excursions and enrichment activities for the youth of Hawai‘i Island; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to the Keaukaha School Foundation for Keaukaha Elementary School’s preschool activities in the 2023-2024 school year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
