Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to submit the nomination of Mark M. Nakashima of Hamakua
(CD-1) to the Hawaii County Salary Commission, to replace Gail M. Walker of
Hamakua (CD-1 whose term expired on December 31, 1996.
Mr. Nakashima is a 35-year resident of Hawaii and since 1992, has been a
Legislative Specialist/Field Representative with the Hawaii State Teachers
Association. Prior to that, he was a teacher with the State of Hawaii Department
of Education. His community activities include the Hawaii Jaycees and the
Hamakua Lions. He is a Democrat.
If approved, Mr. Nakashima will serve the balance of the unexpired term which
will end on December 31, 2001. Should the Council have any questions
regarding this nomination, you may call me at your convenience.
