Re: Multi-year Agreement with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and/or the
State of Hawaii Department of Transportation
The Department of Public Works wishes to enter into a multi-year agreement with the
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and/or the State of Hawaii Department of
Transportation. The agreement is to receive federal funds of $249,320 for the County of
Hawaii Safe Routes to School Program based on the financial obligation of matching
funds by the County of Hawaii over the course of three years.
Enclosed is a resolution to enter into an agreement to accept these funds and to authorize
the payment of funds for more than one fiscal year. Also enclosed is a bill for an
ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating $249,320 to the Department
of Public Works' "Safe Routes to School" account.

Transportation Alternatives Program funding for Safe Routes To School Program Coordinator activities for
State FY 2024 to FY 2026. This grant will assist the Department with coordinating projects and developing.
SRTS initiatives to promote walking and biking as a safe and viable transportation near schools.
