RE: Attached Bill
Attached you will find a bill which proposes to amend Ordinance No. 99-71, as amended,
the Capital Budget, by adding the Waiaha Bay Beach Park Land Acquisition project for
the amount of $1,000,000.
Waiaha Bay Beach Park, also known as Honl's Beach, is one of the last remaining white
sand beaches in Hawaii and is an area rich in natural resources. Therefore, it is
imperative that the Council acquires this property for the benefit generations to come.
Furthermore, the Hawaii County General Plan Section 4(F), Natural Beauty Goals,
states, "The County shall protect, preserve and enhance the quality of areas endowed with
natural beauty, including the quality of coastal scenic resources." And, Section 4(K),
Recreation Policies, states, "The County of Hawaii shall adopt and ongoing program of
identification, designation and acquisition of areas with recreational resources such as
land with sandy beaches and other prime areas for shoreline recreation."
