Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Resolution
No. 286-23, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 286-23, transmitted by Council Member Cindy Evans, via Communication
No. 495, dated September 19, 2023, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources
Preservation Maintenance Fund Stewardship Grant to Kohala Lihikai.
This resolution approves a grant of $59,298 to Kohala Lihikai, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to
provide land stewardship, wildfire mitigation, and cultural education for the Kaiholena property, (Tax
Map Keys: 5-8-001:011, 019, 020, 021, 022, and 023), pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawaii
County Charter.
Committee Member Evans asked for her colleagues' support.
Pursuant to Sections 10-16(g) and (h) of the Hawaii County Charter, maintenance fund stewardship
grants may be awarded by resolution for the public safety maintenance and preservation of properties
acquired through the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund.
Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 286-23, and recommends its adoption.
