RESOLUTION NO.�
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO M. ALAMA O PUNA TO
ASSIST WITH FUNDING YOUTH ENGAGEMENT EVENTS FOR KEA`AU MIDDLE
SCHOOL IN THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR.
WHEREAS, Malama O Pima is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to
provide community resources to maintain a safe and healthy community through environmental
education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land trusting; and
WHEREAS, the Kea`au Middle Parent Teacher Student Association (Kea`au Middle
PISA) promotes the collaboration and engagement of families and educators and advocates for
the students' education and well-being; and
WHEREAS, the Kea`au Middle PTSA and Kea`au Middle School are coordinating
youth engagement events in the 2023-2024 school year that include the Halloween Haunt, school
Winter Dance, post -Christmas parade Hot Chocolate Gathering, College Career Readiness, and
8th grade commencement; and
WHEREAS, Malama O Puna supports youth engagement events that foster a sense of
community and enhance the social and emotional well-being of students from the Puna region;
and
WHEREAS, as the fiscal sponsor for these youth engagement events, Malama O Puna is
requesting fiends to cover expenses that include, but are not limited to, event decorations and
supplies, paper products, Halloween candy and glow sticks, deejay fee, and refreshments; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports drug-free and alcohol -free
events that enrich the lives of community members; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to Malama O Puna to assist with funding youth engagement
events for Kea`au Middle School in the 2023-2024 school year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
