HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 264 Draft 02 2022-2024IV "tOF h 0 ".4 COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 6 4 23 (DRAFT 2) A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE KELI'I WILLIAM IOANE LEGACY FOUNDATION FOR THE 2023 MAKAHIKI COMMUNITY CELEBRATION. WHEREAS, the Keli'i William loane Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to honor and perpetuate the legacy of Keli'i William loane, Jr., whose mission was to spread awareness of Native Hawaiian rights and issues and ensure the perpetuation of the Makahiki in Keaukaha; and WHEREAS, the Keli'i William loane Legacy Foundation will prepare for the traditional Makahiki festival that has been and continues to be a critically important time in the Hawaiian culture, as a season of peace, rest, and ceremonies to honor Lono and bring our communities together toward prosperity; and WHEREAS, the 2023 Makahiki opening ceremony will be held in November at Kulapae Point on the eastern section of Keaukaha Beach Park followed by the celebration at Lehia Beach Park in Keaukaha; and WHEREAS, the Keli'i William loane Legacy Foundation is requesting funds to assist with expenses in preparation for the 2023 Makahiki celebration, which include materials and supplies for the Makahiki games, apparel for community volunteers and participants, and area maintenance; and WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of our rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Keli'i William loane Legacy Foundation to assist with expenses in preparation for the 2023 Makahiki community celebration. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $2,900 OUT AND FROM: 010.101.5101.91 Clerk -Council SVC — Contingency Relief CREDITED TO: 010.500.5503.02 Department of Parks and Recreation P&R Admin OCE 115 Misc. Contract Services (Keli`i William Ioane Legacy Foundation — 2023 Makahiki) $2,900 $2,900 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
