JMtY Of H,h. <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII {: STATE OF HAWAII <br />tf • Ni MO •r\ <br />1r�tlF •N'.� <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE WAIMEA <br />PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS <br />ARCHIVAL PRESERVATION PROJECT. <br />WHEREAS, the Waimea Preservation Association (WPA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization dedicated to preserving the rich cultural and historical heritage of Waimea and to <br />supporting a strong and prosperous community; and <br />WHEREAS, since its incorporation in 1993, the WPA has been entrusted with a large <br />number of historic photographs and documents that tell the unique story of Waimea's people and <br />culture; and <br />WHEREAS, in an effort to preserve these historic materials and make them accessible <br />for future generations, the WPA is partnering with students and kupuna (elders) from South <br />Kohala to scan its archival collection; and <br />WHEREAS, the WPA is requesting funding assistance to help purchase computer <br />software for the organization and cataloging of archival materials, website development for <br />public presentation of and access to archival materials, upgrades to the WPA's multimedia <br />technology for the preservation and display of archival materials, electrical improvements to the <br />WPA office space located in an annex of the County's Lily Yoshimatsu Senior Center, and <br />miscellaneous office supplies necessary for its archival preservation project; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this project as it is in <br />keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to support the cultural uniqueness of <br />Hawaii County and promote activities and programs in culture, history, arts, and the humanities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief fiends shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Waimea Preservation Association to assist with <br />expenses related to its archival preservation project. <br />
