A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE
FUTURE TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE NORTH KOHALA TOOL LIBRARY.
WHEREAS, tool libraries have the potential to improve community resilience, save community members money and storage space, become a hub for education and community building, contribute
to economic and environmental security, and provide other community benefits; and
WHEREAS, since its opening in 2022, the North Kohala Tool Library has over $15,000 worth of tool donations in its inventory that are available for rental or borrowing by community members
at little or no cost; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working in partnership with the organizers of the North Kohala Tool Library to build community capacity by providing
library members with affordable and convenient access to tools and equipment as well as opportunities to learn new skills; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is requesting funding assistance to help with venue rental costs and tool purchases for the North Kohala Tool Library; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports this project as it is in keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to support organizations that keep our communities
safe and strong through drug- and alcohol-free projects and services; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Friends of the Future to assist with expenses related to the North Kohala Tool Library.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
