A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE WAIMEA PRESERVATION
ASSOCIATION TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS ARCHIVAL PRESERVATION PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the Waimea Preservation Association (WPA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the rich cultural and historical heritage of Waimea and to supporting
a strong and prosperous community; and
WHEREAS, since its incorporation in 1993, the WPA has been entrusted with a large number of historic photographs and documents that tell the unique story of Waimea’s people and culture;
and
WHEREAS, in an effort to preserve these historic materials and make them accessible for future generations, the WPA is partnering with students and kūpuna (elders) from South Kohala
to scan its archival collection; and
WHEREAS, the WPA is requesting funding assistance to help purchase computer software for the organization and cataloging of archival materials, website development for public presentation
of and access to archival materials, upgrades to the WPA’s multimedia technology for the preservation and display of archival materials, electrical improvements to the WPA office space
located in an annex of the County’s Lily Yoshimatsu Senior Center, and miscellaneous office supplies necessary for its archival preservation project; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this project as it is in keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to support the cultural uniqueness of Hawai‘i
County and promote activities and programs in culture, history, arts, and the humanities; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to the Waimea Preservation Association to assist with expenses related to its archival preservation project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
