It seems very appropriate that this is coming before the Policy Committee on Health, Safety and Well -Being as it affects not only residents of Hawaiian Acres but others living on private, nondedicated and non -surrendered roads. Hawaiian Acres is one of the few, and probably the largest. subdivision in East Hawaii that does not have mandatory road dues. The Road Corporation is constantly struggling with the little funds we get to maintain the roads with the level of traffic we have plus the weather. We are constantly concerned about whether first responders such as ambulances, fire trucks, or police are able to get to an emergency in a timely manner. In light of the fire in Maui, we wonder if closure of a main thoroughfare will block access or egress to a critical area. Public transportation is also very important to many residents in East Hawaii, including schools. Recent improvements are greatly appreciated, but they are limited by access to decent roads. We strongly believe 'connectivity' with Road 1 and Road F are all-important to a comprehensive transportation system. Any assistance in these areas would be appreciated and could greatly improve the Health, Safety and Well -Being of East Hawaii residents!
