HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0471.001 2022-2024Historically, this annual concert has been partly funded by WaiWai County funds. Unfortunately, this year, we did not
receive an award from those funds, and we are seeking assistance to ensure the continuation of this vital event.
Our free children's concert is a significant educational and cultural opportunity for the students attending public schools
on Hawaii Island. In January 2023, we were delighted to welcome over 900 students to the concerts. This event features
the Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra, comprising professional musicians who perform orchestral music specially curated
to engage and captivate students from 3rd to 8th grade, although high school students often attend as well.
The primary goal of the concert is to provide students with fundamental knowledge about musical instruments while
igniting their passion for music education. Many students and teachers have expressed that this concert is a
transformative experience for them. Most attendees have never had the opportunity to witness a live orchestral concert
before, and their feedback consistently highlights the power and impact of this event.
Offering this concert free of charge to the community is one of the most effective ways to introduce students to the
world of orchestral music and inspire them to explore playing a musical instrument themselves. It is a vital tool for
promoting music education and cultural enrichment on our island.
With this in mind, we kindly request the council's consideration and support in funding our 2024 free children's concert.
Your assistance will ensure that this essential event continues to provide valuable experiences and educational
opportunities for our local students.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to your favorable decision and remain available to provide
any additional information or answer any questions you may have.lilt
