In the current Budget Ordinance 23-50, $155,000 is appropriated in the Traffic Safety
Training Project account. Additional funds in the amount of $11,479.88 are being
provided by the State of Hawaii Department Transportation to be used to support
specialized training for prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and other personnel aimed
at reducing the lethal effects of alcohol and drugged driving.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating these
additional funds into the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney's Traffic Safety Training
Project account, bringing the total appropriation to $166,479.88.

Request to amend Ordinance 23-50, County Operating Budget for fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
Increase the revenue and appropriation in the Traffic Safety Training Project account by $11,479.88.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
Federal funds have been provided by the State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation for our Traffic
Safety Training Project for FY24. These funds support specialized training for prosecutors, law enforcement
officers and other personnel aimed at reducing the lethal effects of alcohol -driving and drugged driving.
Trainings provided through this grant equip prosecutors and law enforcement officers with the most current
techniques, methods and standards in the investigation and prosecution of alcohol and drug -impaired
drivers. These funds also support the collaboration of prosecutors, law enforcement and the Judiciary in
efforts to reduce impaired driving.
