Additional funds in the amount of $11,479.88 are being provided by the State of Hawaii Department Transportation to be used to support specialized training for prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and other personnel aimed at reducing the lethal effects of alcohol and drugged driving. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating these additional funds into the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney's Traffic Safety Training Project account, bringing the total appropriation to $166,479.88. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): Federal funds have been provided by the State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation for our Traffic Safety Training Project for FY24. These funds support specialized training for prosecutors, law enforcement officers and other personnel aimed at reducing the lethal effects of alcohol -driving and drugged driving. Trainings provided through this grant equip prosecutors and law enforcement officers with the most current techniques, methods and standards in the investigation and prosecution of alcohol and drug -impaired drivers. These funds also support the collaboration of prosecutors, law enforcement and the Judiciary in efforts to reduce impaired driving.
