Malama 0 Puna is working hand in hand with the Keaau Middle School Parent Teacher Association, as a fiscal sponsor to help the PTSA carry planned events such as a Halloween Haunt, Winter Dance, Post -Holiday -Parade Hot Chocolate Gathering, College & Career Readiness and 8th Grade Promotion. Currently I am the student activities coordinator for Keaau Middle School and I also serve as the PTSA board. I am so thankful that Council member Kierkiewicz is willing to help out with our school's mission to provide safe and healthy recreational opportunities for our youth beyond a typical school day. As you likely know, rural Puna, with its vast private subdivisions, can make for a very isolated upbringing for many of our youth. When we can provide moments for young people to congregate in a positive and healthy manner, we are helping to build and sustain a productive community. We are so grateful to have non-profit agencies such as Malama 0 Puna that support the collaboration of families and educators in promoting healthy and safe recreation for our Puna youth. My apologies that I will not be able to testify in person on this matter, since I will be teaching a class at 9 am on Wednesday morning. Please vote favorably for Resolution 311-23. Mahalo nui loa.
