A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO ‘EWALU INC.
FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS DIGITAL LITERACY CLASSES FOR SENIORS.
WHEREAS, ‘Ewalu Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing computer access and basic computer literacy classes to help improve the quality of life for senior residents
and to advance digital equity on Hawai‘i Island; and
WHEREAS, the digital literacy classes were held October 23-24, 2023, and covered basic computer functions and navigation, such as the internet, e-mail, video conferencing, online security,
and safe browsing techniques; and
WHEREAS, ‘Ewalu Inc. received approval from the Department of Parks and Recreation to conduct its digital literacy classes at the Lily Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea and the North
Kohala Senior Center in Kapa‘au; and
WHEREAS, ‘Ewalu Inc. is requesting a reimbursement for the purchase of refurbished computers used by class participants and air travel expenses for the instructors; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this project as it is in keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to provide and/or facilitate a wide array of
recreational opportunities and services that meet the needs of the Hawai‘i Island community; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to ‘Ewalu Inc. for reimbursement of expenses related to its digital literacy classes for seniors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
