Support for Resolution 303-23
Dear Chair Kimball, Vice Chair Inaba and Members of the Hawaii County Council,
The Kohala Coast Resort Association is in full support of Resolution 303-23, authorizing the Finance Director to
negotiate a 68-year lease with Kamakoa Not Limited Partnership for the purpose of developing additional affordable
workforce housing in Hawaii County's Kamakoa Nui subdivision in Waikoloa Village.
As proposed, this new development would add 140 units of affordable workforce housing, which we sorely need in
proximity to our large employment center on the Kohala Coast. We believe that it is essential for the County of
Hawaii, and the State of I Iawaii, to examine all options to support affordable housing on our island. We encourage
additional partnerships to fully develop the Kamakoa Nui subdivision.
The Kohala Coast Resort Association is a collection of master -planned resorts, simaled north of the Ellison Ontzuka
Kona International Airport at Keahole, which represents approximately 3,500 hotel and timeshare accommodations, an
equal number of resort residential units, as well as shopping, entertainment, golf, spa and dining opportunities. KCRA
members employ more than 5,000 Hawaii Island residents, and we annually pay more than $25 million in TAT and
$25 million in GET to the State of Hawaii, and $11 million in property taxes to the County of Hawaii.
Thank you for your leadership on this important project and mahalo for your support of Resolution 303-23
Sincerely,
Stephanie Donoho
