COUNTY OF HAWAI I • `-'- �1 • STATE OF HAWAI`I � : , • • RESOLUTION NO. 357 23 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE MAINTENANCE AND BEAUTIFICATION OF THE RENE SIRACUSA PAHOA ROUNDABOUT. WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide community resources to maintain a safe and healthy community through environmental education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land trusting; and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna honors the enduring legacy of its former Executive Director, Rene Siracusa, by coordinating donations and organizing community-driven beautification efforts for the Pahoa roundabout named after her; and WHEREAS,the State Department of Transportation has fulfilled Malama 0 Puna's request to fill in the roundabout's three splinter islands, which has improved aesthetics, increased safety, and reduced long-term maintenance needs; and WHEREAS, the ongoing preservation of the Rene Siracusa Pahoa Roundabout relies on dedicated community partners and volunteers for consistent maintenance and stewardship; and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funds for landscaping equipment, contract hire for mowing, ground cover plants, signage, refreshments for volunteers, and gardening tools and supplies necessary for the ongoing maintenance and beautification of the Rene Siracusa Pahoa Roundabout; and WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports community-based programs that promote education, health, and well-being in drug-free, alcohol-free venues; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program,project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna to assist with expenses related to the maintenance and beautification of the Rene Siracusa Pahoa Roundabout. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
