COMMITTEE ON FINANCE
Re: Comm. No. 563/Bill No. 99
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 99, reports as follows:
Bill No. 99, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako via Communication No. 563 dated
October 13, 2023, amends Ordinance No. 23-50, as amended, the operating budget for the County
of Hawaii for fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
This bill increases revenues in the Federal Grants — Traffic Safety Training Project account
($11,479.88); and appropriates the same to the Traffic Safety Training Project account, for a total
appropriation of $166,479.88. These additional funds would be used to support the Office of the
Prosecuting Attorney's Traffic Safety Training Project.
Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz asked Grant Nagata, Business Administrator for the
Prosecutor's Office to provide some background on this measure. Ms. Kierkiewicz asked if these funds
were intended for personnel to attend conferences, training, and webinars locally and out of state. Mr.
Nagata stated that these funds were only intended for the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor to travel to
conferences and training as well as a collaborative meeting and training with the State. Ms. Kierkiewicz
thanked Mr. Nagata for this detailed overview.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 99, and recommends
its passage on first reading.
