Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred
Resolution No. 333-23, reports as follows:
Resolution 333-23, introduced by Council Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz via Communication
No. 565 dated October 19, 2023, strongly urges the Office of the Mayor to increase capacity and
funding for the Hawaii Fire Department to proactively mitigate the potential impacts of
wildfires.
Fire Chief Kazuo Todd of the Hawaii Fire Department was present in the Hilo Chambers and
spoke in favor of the resolution.
Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Resolution No. 333-23, and recommends its adoption.
