Comm. 457: APPOINTMENT OF HAYDEN KONANUI—TUCKER TO THE YOUTH COMMISSION From Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated September 6, 2023. Motion to Close File: Ms. Lee Loy moved to recommend confirmation of the appointment of Hayden Konanui-Tucker to the Youth Commission. Seconded by Ms. Kagiwada. GOEAC-18 October 3,2023 CHR. EVANS: Any discussion? Is the Administration here to introduce? Okay, so, Member Kagiwada. MS. KAGIWADA: Thank you. I'll just say, I had the pleasure of being involved in the training session with the Youth Commission and Hayden was present. So, I got to meet him and talk to him, and I think he's going to be a great addition to the commission. So, thank you to the Mayor for introducing him. CHR. EVANS: Thank you, are there any other questions or comments? We have the Administration here. Pomai, any comments for Hayden Konanui-Tucker? (Note: At this time, Executive Assistant to the Mayor Pomaika`i Bartolome came forward to address the members of the Committee.) MS. BARTOLOME: Yes, good morning. Pomaika`i Bartolome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth. Yeah, I just wanted to share that Hayden is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii. He did attend our Youth Retreat but not able to be here this morning because he is a student at the University of Hawaii here in Hilo. He's very active in our community and I'm very excited for Hayden, for the rest of the commission, and for our community to see what kind of insight he'll be bringing to the commission. So, thank you. CHR. EVANS: Thank you. Member Kierkiewicz. MS. KIERKIEWICZ: Thank you, Chair. I think Hayden is an excellent choice. Humble brag, he also lives in District 4. But he really is the real deal. He really does embody the spirit of Aloha. He's culturally grounded, vibrant, and a really resilient kid. I just know that whenever he shows up, he's all in 100 percent. So, I think we can expect him to bring that same level of commitment, energy, and enthusiasm; and just real zest to the Youth Commission. So, thank you for finding him. Excellent choice and do support his addition to the Youth Commission. Thank you. CHR. EVANS: Thank you. Member Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder. MR. KANEALI`I-KLEINFELDER: Thank you, Chair. Yeah, great decision by the Administration. I've known Hayden for almost as old as my kids are. So, amazing individual; dances hula, extremely active in the community. I think his grandfather was Jerry Konanui, who was the Kalo expert, and I've just seen him in so many different places in so many different lenses. I'm always impressed by him as a spirit, as a human being, and as a young man. So, he would do well on the commission, and we have done well by finding someone like him to put in that spot. So, thank you very much. I'll be supporting this nomination today. Page 2 GOEAC-18 October 3,2023 CHR. EVANS: Thank you. Seeing no more red lights, all in favor? Any opposed? EVANS: To the Administration, please. MS. BARTOLOME: So, Goretti Allen, she is a Freshman at Saint Joseph High School, and if you can remember, she was in the Council Chamber I want to say, maybe a couple months ago. She was interning this past summer in the Mayor's Office. Great student and youth. She is currently on the volleyball team at Saint Joseph, but also very active in our community. So, yeah, we're excited to have Goretti a part of the Youth Commission, and of course, not able to be here this morning because she is in school. CHR. EVANS: Thank you. Members, alright, all in favor? Oh, excuse me, Member Kierkiewicz. MS. KIERKIEWICZ: There are very few opportunities for me to say this, so I'll just say this, go Cardinals. Thank you, Chair. CHR.
