To Whom it May Concern,
As a long time resident and business owner in North Kohala, I want.
to thank you for considering acquisition of the Old Coast Guard
Road in Hawi . For decades, the community has used this road for
access to the ocean - of which access, we have very little in
Kohala .
The road leads to stunning open space with some of the best whale
watching in Hawaii, as well as important historical monuments,
including the birthplace of King Kamehameha and Mo' okini heiau .
We are aware of you being reluctant to take on a road in less than
perfect condition, but I believe the residents Kohala demonstrated
our care and concern by going down ourselves and filling thousands
of potholes .
We did it because we care . We did it because we want this
access . We did it because we have used this road for years and it
is part of our community . We did it because we don' t have sunsets
in Kohala and this is the closest place for us to see an ocean
sunset . We did it to preserve our heritage .
I would urge you to acquire this property on behalf of the Kohala
community.
