Please keep the Old Coast Guard Road open and maintained. I have friends who currently own property and live on that road. I also have worked for two residents who live there. The condition of the road has deteriorated drastically over the last 20 years, with only spots temporarily fixed. It is no longer a safe road to travel. Aside from its vital historical significance, and ongoing importance of access for fishermen and residences of Kohala to the ocean, this road offers our young people a closer and possibly safer place to enjoy the views of the ocean and local family sunset viewing spots. With the closest waterfront accesses at least 10 miles from Hawi/Kapaau, it is necessary to think ahead for the community as far as future gas prices and car availability and road conditions are concerned.
