Subject: Resolution 328-23 'CCD
Aloha Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions Committee
I support the transfer of Old Coast Guard Road to the County of Hawaii because it:
1. Would forever preserve public access to state parks, historical sites, and the public shoreline for recreation.
2. Is the only drive-up access to the ocean for several miles in either direction.
3. Needs a responsible local government owner like the County who has taken and maintained other roads for public
shoreline, recreation, and historic access purposes.
Aloha Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions Committee,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my wholehearted support for Resolution 328-23,advocating for the
transfer of Old Coast Guard Road to the County of Hawaii. This initiative resonates deeply with me due to its significant
implications for public access, historical preservation, and community well-being.
• - Preservation of Public Access:The transfer of Old Coast Guard Road to the County of Hawaii
ensures the perpetual preservation of public access to state parks, historical sites, and the shoreline for recreational purposes.
Preserving these areas is crucial for the cultural and environmental health of our community. It allows residents and visitors
alike to connect with the rich history and natural beauty that our region has to offer.
• Critical Drive-Up Access to the Ocean: Old Coast Guard Road stands as the sole drive-up
access to the ocean for miles in both directions. This unique attribute makes it an invaluable asset to our community, offering a
gateway for individuals to experience the breathtaking beauty of our coastline conveniently. This access not only enhances the
quality of life for residents but also supports local businesses that rely on tourism and outdoor activities.
• Need for a Responsible Local Government Owner: Entrusting the ownership and
management of Old Coast Guard Road to the County of Hawaii is a strategic move. The county has demonstrated its
commitment to responsibly taking care of roads meant for public shoreline, recreation, and historic access. This transfer aligns
with the county's track record of effective stewardship, ensuring that this precious resource is maintained and utilized for the
benefit of the community.
In conclusion, Resolution 328-23 is a crucial step towards securing the future of Old Coast Guard Road for the residents of
Hawaii. By approving this resolution, you not only contribute to the preservation of our cultural and natural heritage but also
facilitate increased accessibility and enjoyment of these treasures for generations to come.
I implore the committee to consider the long-term impact and benefits this resolution offers to our community.Thank you for
your time, dedication, and thoughtful consideration of this matter.Your decision has the potential to positively shape the
future of Old Coast Guard Road and the well-being of our community.
