SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
Kamehameha Avenue at Kalakaua Street: Proposed Freight Loading Zone
The Downtown Improvement Association has requested that a freight loading zone be authorized on the
mauka side of Kamehameha Avenue between Waianuenue Avenue and Kalakaua Street. A location map
and the request from the Downtown Improvement Association are attached.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. Should you have any

Subject: Loading Zone on Kamehameha Avenue
(Near Cronies Bar and Grill)
Dear Richard:
I apologize for the delay in responding formally to your letter of
October 21, 1999 regarding the request to provide a 30-minute freight-
loading zone on Kamehameha Avenue at the subject location. I needed to
consult with both merchants and other building tenants located along
Kamehameha Avenue between Waianuenue Avenue and Kalakaua Street, and
members of the Downtown Improvement Association-Board of Directors.
Our understanding is that to provide the requested loading zone at the
subject location adjacent to the intersection of Waianuenue Avenue and
Kamehameha Avenue would likely require, because of traffic engineering
considerations, the elimination of two of the six existing parking stalls
present between Waianuenue Avenue and Kalakaua Street. As I indicated to
you in our telephone conversation of November 19, 1999, the majority of
the merchants and building tenants consulted, as well as the DIA would
prefer to have a 30-minute freight-loading zone provided adjacent to the
intersection of Kamehameha Avenue and Kalakaua Street, in front of the
Pacific Tsunami Museum. The latter location would likely require the
elimination of only a single parking stall, instead of two parking stalls,
and would represent amore conveniently situated loading zone that would
better serve a greater number of merchants and building tenants along
Kamehameha Avenue.
