Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Resolution
No. 337-23, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 337-23, transmitted by Council Member Michelle Galimba, via Communication
No. 569, dated October 19, 2023, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources
Preservation Maintenance Fund Stewardship Grant to the Friends of Amy B.H. Greenwell
Ethnobotanical Garden.
This resolution approves a grant of $171,370 to the Friends of Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical
Garden, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to continue providing land stewardship and cultural
education for properties in Kealakekua (Tax Map Keys: 8-2-013:002, 003, 014; 8-2-014:043 and
8-2-015:059), pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawaii County Charter.
Council Member Galimba explained briefly about the educational benefit of the gardens and asked
council members for their support.
Pursuant to Sections 10-16(g) and (h) of the Hawaii County Charter, maintenance fund stewardship
grants may be awarded by resolution for the public safety maintenance and preservation of properties
acquired through the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund.
Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent
of Resolution No. 337-23, and recommends its adoption.
