STATE OF HAWAI`I <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 376 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA TO <br /> ASSIST WITH FUNDING YOUTH ENGAGEMENT EVENTS FOR KEA'AU MIDDLE <br /> SCHOOL IN THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR. <br /> WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to <br /> provide community resources to maintain a safe and healthy community through environmental <br /> education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land trusting; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Kea'au Middle Parent Teacher Student Association (Kea'au Middle <br /> PTSA) promotes the collaboration and engagement of families and educators and advocates for <br /> the students' education and well-being; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Kea'au Middle PTSA and Kea'au Middle School are coordinating <br /> youth engagement events in the 2023-2024 school year that include the school Winter Dance, <br /> post-Christmas parade Hot Chocolate Gathering, College Career Readiness, and 8th grade <br /> commencement; and <br /> WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna supports youth engagement events that foster a sense of <br /> community and enhance the social and emotional well-being of students from the Puna region; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, as the fiscal sponsor for these youth engagement events, Malama 0 Puna is <br /> requesting funds to purchase event decorations, party supplies, paper products, deejay fee, and <br /> refreshments; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports drug-free and alcohol-free <br /> events that enrich the lives of community members; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna to assist with funding youth engagement <br /> events for Kea'au Middle School in the 2023-2024 school year. <br />
