COUNTY OF HAWAI`I �'= '��•- STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 379 23 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAI`I ISLAND VETERANS MEMORIAL INC. TO DISPLAY THE WALL THAT HEALS. WHEREAS, Hawai`i Island Veterans Memorial Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to develop community projects, programs, and activities that will improve the lives of all veterans and their families living on Hawai`i Island; and WHEREAS, Hawai`i Island Veterans Memorial Inc. is working in collaboration with a community-based committee formed by the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Hawai`i County Veterans Advisory Committee to organize, plan, and host The Wall That Heals; and WHEREAS, The Wall That Heals is a mobile, three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial located in Washington, D.C., that provides veterans and their families a convenient and accessible opportunity to honor over 58,000 Americans who gave their lives in service in the Vietnam conflict; and WHEREAS, The Wall That Heals will be on display in Hilo at Mo`oheau Park on January 22-28, 2024; and WHEREAS, Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial Inc. is requesting funds to assist with expenses for electrical generators and a site fee to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund to display The Wall That Heals; and WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this event as it is in keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to provide diversified programs that address the needs and interest of the respective communities in a safe environment; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Hawai`i Island Veterans Memorial Inc. to display The Wall That Heals. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
