`PJr os dY , <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAI`I : -i "''�•=,4/ •` STATE OF HAWAI`I <br /> ..'ATE <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 380 23 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE DAUGHTERS OF <br /> HAWAII TO ASSIST WITH IRRIGATION SYSTEM REPAIRS TO PRESERVE THE <br /> ROYAL BANYAN TREE AT HULIHE`E PALACE. <br /> WHEREAS, the Daughters of Hawai`i is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br /> mission is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of old Hawai`i and to preserve the nomenclature <br /> and correct pronunciation of the Hawaiian language; and <br /> WHEREAS, in the 1880s, the Royal Banyan Tree at Hulihe`e Palace in Kailua-Kona <br /> was planted by Queen Kapi`olani from a cutting taken from a banyan tree at `Iolani Palace in <br /> Honolulu, which was a gift from Indian royalty to Queen Kapi`olani's husband,King Kalakaua; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the Royal Banyan Tree at Hulihee Palace is a major feature and landmark <br /> of Historic Kailua Village, and the irrigation system requires maintenance and repairs for its <br /> continued preservation; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Daughters of Hawai`i is requesting funds to replace control valves and <br /> pop-up rotors for the irrigation system on the Hulihe`e Palace grounds; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that provide <br /> educational activities and community events in a drug-free and alcohol-free environment, such as <br /> the Daughters of Hawai`i at Hulihe`e Palace; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Daughters of Hawai`i to assist with irrigation system <br /> repairs to preserve the Royal Banyan Tree at Hulihee Palace. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
