Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Resolution
No. 358-23, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 358-23, transmitted by Michelle Galimba, via Communication No. 592, dated
October 30, 2023, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation
Maintenance Fund Stewardship Grant to Na Mamo O Kawa.
This resolution approves a grant of $123,788 to Na Mamo O Kawa, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization, to continue providing land stewardship and cultural education for properties in Kawa,
Hilea Nui, and Ka`alaiki, (Tax Map Keys: 9-5-016:006, 025 and 9-5-017:005, 007), pursuant to
Section 10-16(h) of the Hawaii County Charter.
Finance Property Manager Hamana Ventura was available in chambers for questions and thanked the
nonprofit for its work. Council Member Galimba gave a brief overview and asked for everyone's
support.
Pursuant to Sections 10-16(g) and (h) of the Hawaii County Charter, maintenance fund stewardship
grants may be awarded by resolution for the public safety maintenance and preservation of properties
acquired through the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund.
Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 358-23, and recommends its adoption.
