A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA O PUNA TO
ASSIST WITH FUNDING YOUTH ENGAGEMENT EVENTS FOR KEA‘AU MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR.
WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide community resources to maintain a safe and healthy community through environmental education,
hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land trusting; and
WHEREAS, the Kea‘au Middle Parent Teacher Student Association (Kea‘au Middle PTSA) promotes the collaboration and engagement of families and educators and advocates for the students’
education and well-being; and
WHEREAS, the Kea‘au Middle PTSA and Kea‘au Middle School are coordinating youth engagement events in the 2023-2024 school year that include the school Winter Dance, post-Christmas parade
Hot Chocolate Gathering, College Career Readiness, and 8th grade commencement; and
WHEREAS, Malama O Puna supports youth engagement events that foster a sense of community and enhance the social and emotional well-being of students from the Puna region; and
WHEREAS, as the fiscal sponsor for these youth engagement events, Malama O Puna is requesting funds to purchase event decorations, party supplies, paper products, deejay fee, and refreshments;
and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports drug-free and alcohol-free events that enrich the lives of community members; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Malama O Puna to assist with funding youth engagement events for Kea‘au Middle School in the 2023-2024 school year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
