A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING THE SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE
FUTURE TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE FRIENDLY FRIDGE RESCUE FOOD PROGRAM IN KAMUELA.
WHEREAS, the Friendly Fridge Rescue Food program provides pre-packaged meals for community events and for individuals experiencing food insecurity via a free community refrigerator located
in Kamuela and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is working in partnership with the organizers of the Friendly Fridge Rescue Food program to expand community capacity
through its food donation and distribution service; and
WHEREAS, the Friendly Fridge Food Rescue program serves approximately 400 people each month; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is requesting funding assistance to help cover necessary purchases of perishable and non-perishable food items and fuel for the pick-up and delivery of
such items; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports this program as it is in keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to support public programs that improve the well-being
of Hawai‘i County residents in a safe, drug- and alcohol-free environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Friends of the Future to assist with expenses related to the Friendly Fridge Rescue Food program in Kamuela.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
