Hello Council Members,
I'm in favor of this bill. Besides helping to alleviate that lack of affordable
long term home rentals, it can help people like myself who are trying to
juggle their lives. Currently my house is being rented out long term while I
restore my Father's home in New York City. While I'm gone, to pay my
mortgage and bills of my primary home in North Kohala, I had to rent it out
long term. I'm barely breaking even. In fact, when I applied for the
Affordable Care Act, I was rejected because I didn't have enough income.
Even a small reduction in my property taxes while my home is being
rented out could have made a big difference. It's probably too late for me to
benefit from this legislation, as I'll be returning home before it's enacted, but
it's an example of how it could help others in similar situations.
We all know it's difficult to make ends meet in Hawaii, but we do it
because we love her. This bill might help Kanaka Maoli who've been forced
to leave the islands due to the cost of living, able to come back home.
