Aloha e Chair Heather Kimball and Council members-
I oppose REZ Bill 87.
Aloha Kia is requesting a rezoning from Resort to ML-limited industrial for a proposed project which
includes the conversion and expansion of an existing building, construction of a service station, as well as
adding 135 parking stalls on TMK(3)2-1-6-2, at 92 Kalanianaole St., Hilo, located in the SMA across from
Reed's Bay Ice Ponds and subject to a restrictive flight path easement.
Please remember that this land is in a tsunami zone, and the impacts of a rise in sea level, storm
surge, or tsunami that are not only likely, but overdue. Adding yet another car lot in this area of
known risk seems hazardous to the community,to existing businesses, and to the visitors who
are attracted to this coastline due to its beauty. I see no actual benefit to this proposal, and far too
many ways it will create unnecessary risks. The hazards to aviation posed by this proposal in a
restrictive flight path must be addressed, according to DOT. The SMA rules have regulations
regarding solar panels and vegetation.We don't need another car lot on this heavily travelled
Keaukaha corridor! Please vote no!
