This area is special to so many ohana and kamaaina alike, that it is crucial that we keep it as it is.If we continue to develop coastal areas, the consequences will be irreversible. This should be rejected on the honorable account of the 2005 General Plan, marking this location in black and white from the community as Special Places of Natural Beauty which is protected under the public trust doctrine, found in article XI,section 1 of the Hawai'i Constitution. This states that"For the benefit of present and future generations, the State and its political subdivisions shall conserve and protect Hawaii's natural beauty and all natural resources, including land, water, air, minerals and energy sources, and shall promote the development and utilization of these resources in a manner consistent with their conservation and in furtherance of the self-sufficiency of the State. All public natural resources are held in trust by the State for the benefit of the people."This area would not be the same should a new car dealership and service station be constructed just feet away from Kanakea Pond(AKA Ice Pond). Please find this link with a moolelo about this special pond-https://imagesofoldhawaii.com/kanakea-pond/ I urge you to keep this area as it is so that generations of keiki and ohana can enjoy the beauty of this place to include the winds that breeze and the waters that flow through here.
