Subject: Kealakehe Waste Water Treatment Plant
Aloha County Council Members,
My name is Stephen Arnett. I am the former director of the Office of Housing and Community Development under
mayor Billy Kenoi.
I am writing to ask the County Council NOT to approve funding for outside council to fight the lawsuit, brought by Hui
Malama Honokohau and Earthjustice. This is a waste of money, because precedent has already been set with a similar
lawsuit in Maui.
The Kealakehe Waste Water Treatment Plant has polluted the near shore waters of Honokohau Harbor for years.
paddle my one man canoe out of the harbor three days a week and have seen the pollution first hand.
Any appropriation to hire outside council to fight the lawsuit is ultimately throwing good money at a no win
situation. The Supreme Court has already ruled on this issue,so the end result is settled.
Do the right thing and do not approve money to fight this lawsuit.
Actually,any money appropriated should be used to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant to stop the oran
pollution. r c
