County of Hawai`i, and instead approve the restricted use of the funds, if necessary, for the sole purpose of negotiating a settlement with Hui Mama Honokohau, and cleaning up the federally protected waters under the County's care. As it stands now, it sure looks like Mayor Roth wants to spend $200k to hire continental US counsel (not even lawyers from our island), with resident's tax money (money leaving our island), to fight our own island people as opposed to real problem solving. Council members, you all swore an oath to uphold this State's unique and wholesome constitution, which includes specific duties to protect its waters. Use your powers granted by our island's residents to promote a local and comprehensive solution. Time's up for kicking this can down the road! Sincerely, R A Culbertson, Honokaa Comm. N . 0. I Ref.
