My name is Karie Wakat, and I am Hawaii Island resident from district 7. I am
writing to you today to urge you to reject the funds requested by the mayor to
hire outside counsel to fight Hui Malama Honokohau VS County of Hawaii,
and instead dedicate the funds to negotiate with Hui Malama Honokohau.
As a local recreational diver, I see he waste in the water quite frequently.
There several known shoreline areas where we know there's a high
probability of getting a rash or sick if we dive there. The Honokohau harbor
being one of them.
We all know we polluted the water and continue to do so, in violation of the
clean water act. We need to take responsibility and fix the issues with our
waste water. We cannot continue to kick the can down the road. The road
isn't that long.
