This testimony is in strong support of Comm. 628: 2023 ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE,AND NATURAL RESOURCES PRESERVATION
COMMISSION From Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated November 17, 2023, transmitting the
above report pursuant to Hawai`i County Code Section 2-218,providing a detailed summary of
the purchasing history and status of lands acquired through the fund, a report on management
and stewardship of acquired lands, and the updated prioritized list for proposed acquisition of
•
land.
Specifically,we fully support Mayor Mitch Roth's formal recommendation that the County
Council accept the 2023 Prioritized List as presented by the Public Access, Open Space, and
Natural Resources especially pertaining to Sugg. 29 23- 02 Punahoa Heritage Forest, South Hilo,
TMK: 2- 5- 001: 011 of the PU`a Foundation, and its partners.As presented in the Foundation's
Suggestion Form application our partners and supporters included: United Church of Christ,
Hawaii Conference Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Lono Honua- Halau `Ohi`a- Kekuhi
Keali`ikanaka`ole, Kamehameha Schools, and State Council of Congregational Churches.
