Kierkiewicz Hawai`i County Councilwoman,District 4 SUBJECT: Testimony of Support for Bill 110 Aloha Honorable Councilwoman Kierkiewicz, I am writing to you to support Bill 110 that you have present to the district in your recent townhall meeting. Unfortunately, I am unable to testify in support of Bill 110 on video or in person due to my work schedule. As a lifelong resident of Puna specifically Nanawale Estates, I have personally faced challenges in foreclosed, vacant and derelict properties. Back in the early 2000's, a home on my street went to disrepair as the home owner(who was out of state)passed away and the home went to probate. As many of your colleagues know, probate cases can take a very long time to be resolved. Squatters moved into the home with copious amounts of dogs and parts vehicles. Our neighbors and I faced being victims of property crimes, harassment, speeding vehicles, noises of yelling and sounds of loud engines at all hours of the day, police being called due to domestic altercations, etc. It was about a four-year process of getting the people out of the house and our street to go back to normal. Unfortunately, stories like these are a common occurrence that individuals face all around the island. We the people that live here should not be tormented by the inaction of unattended property owners/agents who do not care about their investment or the people that live here on the island. The passing of this bill is a start in making our community a better place. This would hold property owners accountable for their inactions of addressing the above-mentioned community issues. This bill will also give government officials the ability to better address the needs of the people. Puna is my home. It will forever be my home. Please do the right thing and pass this bill. Thank you for your time and consideration. My hopes are that Bill 110 be passed by the committee. Feel free to contact me with any questions or for further support of this bill. COMM. 3' .S Respectfully, Ref. To: I eti S Y 4ll // r : Ref. Date E". . 1 9 2023 e :artolome ~ Puna Resident
