RE: Testimony IN SUPPORT of Bill 107
I was raised in lower puna in the same house that I am currently raising my two children. I am a
working single mother that commutes to Hilo for work-with an average one way commute time
of 1 hour 10 minutes. I am testifying in favor of Bill 107 in support of the Puna Makai Alternate
Route.
I am taking this position because:
Our quality of life has become limited due to the recent and continuing rapid population growth
and lack of infrastructure. Due to the traffic congestion in particular areas with no alternate
route, we are in grave detriment in the face of disaster or medical emergency. Our daily
commute time for income attainment has increased tremendously, and even during "non-rush
hour" times, there is traffic congestion that compromises travel time for attending and
participating in leisurely activities for a work-play life balance.
I am IN SUPPORT of Bill 107 because without an alternate route, our safety and quality of life is
steadily declining.
