First, thank you for all you do for the Puna District. F= t
We are registered voters , living in Leilani Estates since 2011 . E
Puna's population is growing rapidly, and needs new roadway
infrastructure to keep up with this growth. It is not just a solution to
traffic ® ah alternate route also creates multiple ways to exit and
enter Puna in times of an emergency or a natural disaster, Like a
volcanic eruption or hurricane.
Also, the need for a Emergency Access Road for Leilani Estates. Possibility
going from Nohea north through the forest reserve to Pahoa Kapoho Rd.
Close to Lava Tree State Park. Establishing a temporary road, similar to
Railroad in 2015. This road would be gated and only used in case of an
emergency. The importance of this emergency access road becomes more
imperative , since recent events on Maui. You are fully aware that it's been
5 years since the 2018 Eruption.
Personally our own experiences with Hurricane Iselle in 2014.Which cause
down trees and power lines limiting our ability to leave subdivision. The
2015 Lava Flow that almost cut off Pahoa. Then the 2018 Volcanic
Eruption which when Fissure 8 open up. Block access on Leilani Ave to
Pohoki Rd. Just two blocks from our home. Unknown at the time of our
Evacuation if we would be able to get out and where to go.
