HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL

REGARDING BILL 107 •
Aloha Council Members,
I understand that the Council will discuss Bill 107 on Wednesday, December 19, 2023 which
seeks approval of County and State funding for a study for an alter route in Puna Makai.
I urge the Council to approve this funding because I am a resident of the Puna community and
am very concerned about our existing roadways. At best, they are barely adequate for normal
daily commuter traffic. I don't believe it will serve the community in an emergency situation.
We need an alternate route to Hwy 130. The allocation of money in this bill is only the first
step to traffic mitigation. It is the last step that will save lives. There are many steps in between
and it could take months to years. Do we have years? Can we afford to wait?
Please approve the allocation of these monies,
