Re: Provide Funds to Hawaii HI -Diving Friends

The Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to provide $66,815 to Hawaii HI -
Diving Friends, a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization. This grant will be used towards their
Charles "Sparky" Kawamoto Swim Stadium Dive Tower New Staircase project.
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
$66,815 to Hawaii HI -Diving Friends, pursuant to Hawaii County Code (2016 Edition
as amended) Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A).

Pursuant to the Hawaii County Code section 2-139(a)(3)(A), Council approval is requested for a grant award
of $66,815 to Hawaii HI -Diving Friends, a 501 (c)(3) organization.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED).
The Department of Parks and Recreation would like to provide a $66,815.00 grant to Hawaii HI -Diving
Friends for their Charles "Sparky" Kawamoto Swim Stadium Dive Tower New Staircase project. The existing
dive tower staircase is in a state of disrepair, unusable and presents a safety hazard. In this phase of the
project, Hawaii HI -Diving Friends is requesting funds to assist with the purchase of a new staircase, which
would allow the dive tower to be utilized by dive clubs as well as local and international dive competitions,
