Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred
Communication No. 670, reports as follows:
Communication No. 670, transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated December 19, 2023,
requests the Council's review and confirmation of the nomination of Arthur Taniguchi to the
Liquor Commission.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor Pomaika`i Bartolome was present in the Hilo Chambers to
introduce Mr. Taniguchi, who was also present in the Hilo Chambers, to the Committee.
Several members spoke in favor of the appointment.
Pursuant to Article VII, Chapter 3, Section 7-3.2 of the Hawai`i County Charter, members of the
Liquor Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Communication No. 670, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of
Arthur Taniguchi to the Liquor Commission.
